21-year-old Glee sensation Chris Colfer has just signed a two-book deal with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
But his books won’t be tell-all’s or autobiographies. Instead he’ll be writing fiction like other celebrities Hilary Duff and Lauren Conrad have done. His first book, targeted at 8 through 12 year-olds, will be The Land of Stories and is due for a summer 2012 release. His second novel, yet to be titled, will follow after.
The Land of Stories will combine the modern day world with the realm of fairytales as it tells the tale of twins Alex and Connor Bailey. In a press release about the deal, it was revealed that “Through the mysterious powers of a cherished book of stories, Alex and Connor leave their world behind and find themselves in a foreign land full of wonder and magic where they come face-to-face with the characters they grew up reading about.”
For Colfer, writing a book has been a dream of his for a long time. ”When I was 10 years old, I promised myself that if I ever had the opportunity to write this book, I would jump at the chance.” He stated, adding, “This book has been at the core of my imagination for a long time and I’m excited and nervous to share it.”
This book deal, however, is not Colfer’s first foray into writing. He has recently penned scripts for a new Disney Channel pilot based on the children’s book The Little Leftover Witch and an independent movie Struck by Lightening.
He can sing, he can act, he can dance… and now we find out he can write. What can’t Chris Colfer do?
