Our very own Celebrity Magnet Tom Murro was on the scene at this years star-studded Angel Ball, which honors individuals who have made significant humanitarian and philanthropic contributions in support of cancer research. The event took place Monday night at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
Tom caught up with friend and longtime Vanity Fair Editor, George Wayne. As Tom and George were chatting, newly wed Kim Kardashian and her publicist, Jonathan Cheban were standing nearby, so Wayne said hello to Kardashian and attempted to continue chatting when Cheban stepped in and screamed “That’s enough!” at George while he was trying to talk to Kardashian about a photograph he took of Kim and her father years ago. Kardashian seemed much happier to be speaking with Tom and Wayne than her publicist had hoped, and opened up about married life with Kris Humphries.
“Marriage is great,” she gushed. “Kris is a really good guy and we’re so happy together!”
Tom also learned that the Angel Ball and the Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation holds a very special place in Kim Kardashian‘s heart.
“I’m here honoring my dad and I’m so happy and proud to be part of this event,” Kardashian said.
Never forgetting to promote her family, Kardashian wanted to remind everyone to vote for her brother Rob on Dancing With the Stars.
The lavish party, filled with a fancy wedding style dinner, cocktails, and deserts, picked up when singer Patti Labelle along with the band Chic performed some of her greatest hits including “We Are Family.” The entire crowd was on their feet except for Star Jones, who left the event because she had to prepare for the Today Show.
Tom bumped into the always gracious Russell Simmons,
who posed for pictures with guests the entire evening. Tom walked the red carpet with Simmons
earlier that day at the Caron Renaissance 3rd Annual Save-A-Life
Gala and sat with ladies man, Vince Young,
the actor from the original 90210
opened up about his dating past with Kelly Ripa
and time working on 90210
. He felt that Rippa had the gift for gab and knew she would hit it big. Young
joked that being on a show like 90210 was like having a multi-pass with the ladies. He plans to use that pass in the nursing home with the same 90210 hairstyle.
Tom also had the chance to sit down with the proud and protective father, Stephen Baldwin. A sign of the changing times, Baldwin no longer uses a watch, but prefers to check his iPhone for the time. Baldwin posed for a picture holding his iPhone near his wrist to replace his watch. Potential suitors beware; Baldwin’s screensaver reads, “Guns don’t kill people, dads with good looking daughters do.’
Earlier in the night, Tom bumped into blast from the past actor, Mark Linn Baker
, from the show Perfect Strangers
. Tom commented that Baker
looked the same as he did when he was younger.”If only that were true,” Baker
is currently back on Broadway and doing well.
As the night winded down around midnight, the majority of the crowd poured outside, grabbing their Romero Britto designed swag bags filled with all kinds of goodies on the way. The barricaded streets surrounding Wall Street made it more difficult for the guests to hop into their limos and town cars. The celebrities had to wait about an hour for their rides, which stretched in a line about 6 blocks long.
After posing the entire night and being overwhelmed by guests looking for a photo opportunity, Russell Simmons surely had enough of the picture taking.
