Beyonce gave birth to a baby girl Saturday night, January 7th. Initial reports said the baby girl’s name was Ivy Blue, but the word is now that her name is Blue Ivy. Jay-Z, Blue’s proud father, was at the hospital alongside Beyonce.
News circulated of the baby’s arrival when friends and family of the happy parents began tweeting about the news, with Beyonce’s sister Solange Knowles tweeting “The most beautiful girl in the world.” and Jay-Z’s s protégé Rihanna tweeting “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih” among other famous faces like Gwyneth Paltrow, P.Diddy and more.
Reportedly, Beyonce checked into Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City on January 6 under the name “Ingrid Jackson” and settled into her sixth-floor delivery suite. On January 6, Beyonce and Blue moved down to the fourth-floor recovery suite, with some sources claiming Jay-Z spent nearly $1.3 million for “an entire floor.”
In addition to hospital security, Beyonce also brought along her own security team and the room is custom-made, installed with bulletproof glass and the windows darkened. But not all reports are positive, with some claims surfacing that the couple’s privacy standards are preventing other new parents from checking on their newborns, like Neil Coulon, a new dad who couldn’t check on his premature, newborn twins in the neonatal ICU or would be unable to use the hallways at specific times due to the celebrity couple’s stay and their security teams.
Blue Ivy is the couple’s first child and is named after Jay-Z’s album, “Blueprint,” and Beyonce’s favorite number, 4, which is “IV” (“Ivy”) in Roman numerals.
