Jay Z’s 40/40 Club Renovation Fail

Renovation without sanitation.

I was going to write a post about how much fun I had attending the Grand re-opening of Jay Z’s Club 40/40, the never ending flow of $300 champagne, great music and good times with friends, But now there’s this.  A day after its re-opening celebration on Wednesday night, 40/40 Club was shut down by the NYC Dept of Health, according to DNAinfo.

Apparently, the $10 million dollar makeover wasn’t enough – or even close to being enough – to pass a routine DOH inspection.

The nightclub racked up a massive 69 violation points, more than twice the amount to receive a passing “C” grade, for failing to keep food at appropriate tempatures and a lack of employee cleanliness.  And I ate the chicken Wed night! but to be fair, I’ve been eating in NYC for many years, so I’m sure I’ve at least eaten a roach or 2.

The New York Post claims the club was shut down immediately after the inspection, allowing only those already inside to stay. However, a club employee claims they shut their doors at their regular 4 a.m. closing time that night and re-opened as scheduled at 5 p.m. the next day.

Either way, it seems the 40/40 club has a lot of work to do if it hopes to get below the 28-point threshold for which establishments receive a “C” grade.

I can only hope some of my friends in attendance like Spike Lee, Kevin Liles, Renee Graziano, Kim G, Chris Nirschel and Eric Kelly made it through the next day without an incident, if you know what I mean.
