Donna Summer, the legendary “Queen of Disco,” passed away this morning. She was 63 years old.
The singer had been battling cancer for a long period of time, which was mainly a private battle, according to E! News.
Born LaDonna Gaines in Boston, Massachusetts, Summer had a mezzo-soprano vocal range & was a five-time Grammy winner. She was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach #1 on the Billboard charts, and she also charted four #1 singles in the United States within a 13-month period.
Summer is survived by three children: Mimi Sommer (her daughter with actor Helmuth Sommer), & Brooklyn & Amanda Sudano (her daughters with Brooklyn Dreams singer Bruce Sudano).
Rest in Peace, Donna — you will be missed.
