After struggling with her weight most of her life, and on public TV, RHONJ’s Lauren Manzo has slimmed down from 185 pounds to 155 pounds. How did she do it? By following her father’s steps and getting lap band surgery, and she has no regrets.
“Getting the lap band was the best thing I’ve ever done in my life,” Lauren tells Us Weekly. “When I first got it, I didn’t want to tell anybody. So many fans related to my struggle, I didn’t want to feel like I was letting them down.”
Lauren struggled for a long time with her weight, and it was easy to see on RHONJ how uncomfortable and self-conscious she was at a heavier weight. She said she’s tried various programs, including Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and LA Weight Loss – none of which worked for her.
She credits her mom, Caroline Manzo, for helping motivate her to finally lose the weight. It turns out, Caroline’s comments, like when she referred to Lauren as ”eight pounds of sausage in a five-pound bag,” may have helped.
“If my mom weren’t so blunt with me, I wouldn’t be as happy as I am today,” she says. “I know she didn’t mean anything negative by it. I don’t get offended, so I don’t see why other people do. She has always told me I am beautiful — my father and my brothers, too.”
She says her goal weight is 120 pounds, and to wear a bikini for the first time in her life.
