Cherished actor and icon Andy Griffith died in his home in North Carolina earlier this morning. Bill Friday, former president of UNC and close friend of the actor, announced Griffith’s death to the WITN News this morning.
The news of his death comes just minutes after reports came in that Andy was rushed to the hospital this morning by an emergency medical crew around 7 am. Many people have already started celebrating the beloved actors life, pouring out their support and love on Facebook and Twitter.
Andy Griffith is remembered for his starring role as “America’s Favorite Sheriff” on “The Andy Griffith Show” as well as his successful comeback in “Matlock” in the lead role as Benjamin Matlock.
Griffith received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005 from President George W. Bush.
